Kennedy Celebrates the Grand Opening of the New UCLA-Sponsored Fitness Center

Kennedy High School partnered with UCLA Health and their Sound Body Sound Mind program to build a comprehensive physical education program. The grant has provided a state-of-the-art physical fitness center on our campus to help fight obesity and improve the health and lives of our students, staff, and community. The program also includes access to their Sound Body Sound Mind curriculum and the corresponding professional development for our staff, This the beginning of an incredible budding partnership with UCLA. Kennedy Cheer Wins 1st Place at World Class Cheer Competition

After placing 2nd on February 17 at the School Cheer National Championship in Las Vegas, Kennedy's co-ed competition team made a well-deserved come back and placed first place at the West Coast Challenge in Rancho Cucamonga on March 4. This is their second victory. On December 3, Kennedy Cheer also won first place at the Golden Classic, which took place at Six Flags Magic Mountain.

Teaching Academy Host Danube & Tulsa Elementary for Dr. Seuss Day (Read Across America)

Kennedy celebrated reading and Dr. Seuss’s birthday on March 2 with over 300 elementary school students. The Teaching Academy coordinated the event with 20 Kennedy teachers. The elementary students participated in age-appropriate, Dr. Seuss-themed activities led by Kennedy students. The elementary students were escorted by Kennedy students, Danube and Tulsa staff, and parents. LA School Police ensured their safety by providing traffic control. The event ended with many happy faces and a better understanding of why reading is important.

Digital Design Magnet Students Mentor at David & Goliath Advertising Agency

February begins part 2 of the Digital Design Career Technical Education (CTE) pathway class’ high profile work-based learning experience. In the Fall, 3rd year students participated in an on-site mentorship with the award-winning David & Goliath Advertising Agency in El Segundo and the Spring continues the relationship with the other half of this class. Mentored students work on what is known as a “design brief” while learning how an advertising agency operates. This mentorship experience is being looked at as a role model for state of California!
