The School Nurse / Health Office
Our school nurse in the Health Office carries out a variety of roles in providing healthcare to our children. He is often the only healthcare professional that a student will see in a non-emergency situation. With knowledge and use of community resources, he is often the gatekeeper for entire families to a complex healthcare system.

Our nurse assists many with healthcare needs and illnesses and chronic social and emotional problems. He is a critical component to the school. Some of her duties are as follow:
  • identify child abuse
  • suicide risk assessment
  • identify illegal drug use and depression
  • inserts catheters
  • gauges pacemakers and monitor blood sugar counts
  • provides counseling services to teen who might be pregnant
  • provides education on sexually transmitted diseases
  • administers prescription medications
  • screens for vision and hearing impairments
  • writes referrals for health problems and behaviors
  • controls communicable diseases by ensuring that students are immunized
More importantly, he is the first responder in the event of a tragedy or a medical emergency on campus. He does many physical assessments annually and educates students on health and nutrition.
