Kennedy Film Magnet Garners National Award, Networking Opportunities for Students

District officials are accepting a Magnet School of Distinction Award for the program at the Magnet Schools of America convention in Miami, while students from John F. Kennedy High are representing their school at the California Educational Summit: Education and Technology. The magnet is the only high school in California invited to film behind-the-scenes footage and participate in job-shadowing opportunities with entertainment titans.

Teaching Academy Students Teach at Danube Elementary

On April 7, Teaching Academy Students started teaching at Danube Elementary. Kennedy has partnered up with Junior Achievement to develop lesson plans that are engaging for students in grades K-5. These Kennedy Cougars will be teaching at Danube Elementary School for the next 5 weeks.

New Gifted Medical Magnet in 2016-2017 (Grades 9-12)

Kennedy was chosen to open a new highly gifted, gifted, and high ability magnet for the 2016-17 school year serving 450 students. Normally the process for opening a magnet takes several years, but because of the great need in our community for such a program, this process has been expedited. We intended to further develop the Biomedical Health and Fitness Academy to include Sports Medicine. This magnet will be open to all qualified students in grades 9-12. Kennedy Wins Gold at the SkillsUSA State Competition

Congratulations to our SkillsUSA team who competed in the California state conference in San Diego, California. Samantha Crende and Jerry Cerda won the Gold Medal in Television Production and are now going to represent California at the National SkillsUSA conference in Louisville, Kentucky this June. This is the 3rd gold medal in a row for our magnet filmmaking program.

Kennedy Band & Color Guard Students March with Honor Band in Rose Parade & MLK Day Parade

22 band and 4 color guard students were selected to be part of the 44th Edition of the LAUSD All-City High School Honor Band. This year Kennedy has the highest number of students in the Honor Band. These 26 students practiced during Winter Break to get ready to participate in events such as: Disney's California Adventure, Tournament of Roses Bandfest, Rose Parade, and the Kingdom Day Parade in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. This is the 9th year Mr. Ibarra's has served as an Assistant Band Director for the LAUSD All-City High School Honor Band.

Band and Color Guard Win Division 2A City Camphionships!

On Saturday, December 5, the Band and Color Guard earned 1st Place at the LAUSD Division 2A Band and Drill Team Championships at East Los Angeles College. This is the first time our band and color guard has won a city championship. Please take a moment to congratulate all the Band and Color Guard members on an amazing accomplishment for our Music Department and our school.

Sheyla Monteroso has cheered for 3 years, 2 as Varsity Captain. Christian Escobar plays basketball and runs cross country & track (his favorite). He hopes to win back-to-back city championship. Hope Smith has cheered since she was 5. Raymond Lopez has run cross country & track for 3 years. Hannah Godel who has cheered for 2 years, is now a captain and hopes to place in a cheer competition. Alexis Palacios has run for 12 years, but competitively for the past 4.
