JROTC Wins 1st Place in Marching Drill Unit

On Sunday, December 2, our Navy JROTC also participated in the Granada Hills Holiday Parade. They won 1st Place in Marching Drill Unit. This is the First time NJROTC Cadets won overall Marching Unit under the leadership of our Cadet Master Chief Petty Officer Isaiah Briones. Congratulations JROTC! Way to show that cougar pride!

Kennedy Represents at the Granada Hills Holiday Parade

Sunday, December 2 was the 35 annual Granada Hills Holiday Parade. The theme was, “Holidays of the Future”. Kennedy ASB President Sandra Zambrano rode with other ASB Presidents from Granada Hills High Schools to represent our leaders of the future. Sandra met the Celebrity Grand Marshall Actress, Lee Meriwether: former Miss America, Catwoman, Lily Munster, and Granada Hills resident. She also met Stephen Yeager: former Dodger catcher, Co-MVP of the 1981 World Series, and Granada Hills resident.

Kennedy Band and Color Guard Wins 1st Place AGAIN!

On Saturday, December 1, Kennedy Band and Color Guard won 1st Place in Division 1A LAUSD Band and Drill Team Championships at East LA College, which was sponsored by Beyond the Bell. This is the FOURTH time in a row Band and Color Guard have won a city championship under the leadership of our Band Director, Mr. Ibarra. Congratulations Band and Color Guard team! You bring great recognition to our school.

JFK Students Get Published!

The New Journal of Student Research Abstracts is an annual publication of student research in our local community. The journal is intended to serve as a vehicle to honor young investigators and their teachers by showcasing their work, motivating them to continue their involvement in research science; a source book for both students and teachers who are looking for ideas for research projects; and a volume to disseminate student research discoveries. This year, the work of 43 Kennedy students from Ms. Richard's AP Biology classes had their work published in The New Journal of Student Research Abstracts. Their work can be found on pages 37-44.

Fall 2018 Final Exam Schedule

The Fall Semester is almost over. We only have 2 weeks of instruction left and then Final Exams begin the week of December 10. Finals Exams are:
Tuesday, December 11: Periods 1 & 6
Wednesday, December 12: Periods 2&5
Thursday, December 13: Periods 3 & 4
Students will attend their new Spring Semester classes on Friday, December 14. If there are any problems with students’ Spring Semester schedule of classes that will be distributed in homeroom, students should speak with their counselors on Friday about class changes.

Senior Win Powder Puff Football

Friday, November 30 was a brisk fall night, but not too cold for our Powder Puff girls. The football field was green and in great shape from the recent rainfall. The all-male cheerleaders were on hand to provide additional fun-filled entertainment. The annual competitive all-female flag football kick off was at 7pm. Senior and Junior were tied at halftime, but the Seniors pulled ahead with a final score of 34 to 18. Great game ladies (and great show guys)! Way to show your cougar pride.

Kennedy Honor's Its Veterans

On Friday, November 9, Kennedy honored its veterans for Veteran’s Day. Veterans’ names were proudly displayed in the Main Office. Kennedy veterans’ names were announced throughout the day. At lunch, Kennedy’s veterans were honored on the Mushroom in the Quad with a Starbucks gift card and flowers. Veterans included: Navy JROTC instructor and former Navy Captain Flowers; Navy JROTC instructor and former Marine Gunnery Sargent Baxter; School Nurse and former Navy Lieutenant, Stephen Wong; teacher and former Marine, Mr. Holguin; Assistant Principal and former Army Sergeant, Mr. Song, teacher and former Army Sergeant, Mr. Martinez, Adaptive Physical Education (APE) teacher and former Army National Guard Captain, Marc Halliday; Building and Grounds worker and former Army Sergeant, Joe Dunton; and former LAUSD student and current Army National Guardsman, Luis Martin del Campo.

Student Leaders from Across the District Meet at Kennedy HS

On Wednesday, November 7 Associated Student Body (ASB) Presidents and other student leaders from across the District met at Kennedy High School to share best practices, dialogue with District policymakers, present their thoughts and perspectives, and engage in leadership training. Student leaders were welcomed by our Principal Dr. Chavez. Local Northwest District Superintendent, Joseph Nacorda, and our District 3 Board Member and former middle school Principal, Scott Schmerelson, were also on hand to inspire our student leaders from across the District.

Link Crew and ARC Sponsor Annual Project Ñ Dance

Link Crew and ARC are sponsoring the second annual Project Ñ Dance on Friday, November 16 from 7-11pm. This dance will have all types of Spanish music, tacos, and drinks. Pre-sale tickets are on sale now every day during lunch in the Quad. Tickets for the dance only are $4. Dinner and dance combo tickets, which includes 2 tacos, rice, and beans, are $8. Food will be $5 the day of the dance. Everyone is welcome.

Architectural Design Students Attended LAX Career Fair

On Wednesday, November 7, the senior Architectural Design class attended the LAX Career Fair. The students learned about career and internship opportunities in the aviation industry. The students were able to talk to representatives from four major airline companies, Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), Cal Trans, Transportation Security Administration (TSA), and several aircraft-focused college training programs.
