Kennedy Wins Gold at the SkillsUSA State Competition

Congratulations to our SkillsUSA team who competed in the California state conference in San Diego, California. Samantha Crende and Jerry Cerda won the Gold Medal in Television Production and are now going to represent California at the National SkillsUSA conference in Louisville, Kentucky this June. This is the 3rd gold medal in a row for our magnet filmmaking program.

Kennedy Band & Color Guard Students March with Honor Band in Rose Parade & MLK Day Parade

22 band and 4 color guard students were selected to be part of the 44th Edition of the LAUSD All-City High School Honor Band. This year Kennedy has the highest number of students in the Honor Band. These 26 students practiced during Winter Break to get ready to participate in events such as: Disney's California Adventure, Tournament of Roses Bandfest, Rose Parade, and the Kingdom Day Parade in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. This is the 9th year Mr. Ibarra's has served as an Assistant Band Director for the LAUSD All-City High School Honor Band.

Band and Color Guard Win Division 2A City Camphionships!

On Saturday, December 5, the Band and Color Guard earned 1st Place at the LAUSD Division 2A Band and Drill Team Championships at East Los Angeles College. This is the first time our band and color guard has won a city championship. Please take a moment to congratulate all the Band and Color Guard members on an amazing accomplishment for our Music Department and our school.

September/October Athletes of the Month

Sheyla Monteroso has cheered for 3 years, 2 as Varsity Captain. Christian Escobar plays basketball and runs cross country & track (his favorite). He hopes to win back-to-back city championship. Hope Smith has cheered since she was 5. Raymond Lopez has run cross country & track for 3 years. Hannah Godel who has cheered for 2 years, is now a captain and hopes to place in a cheer competition. Alexis Palacios has run for 12 years, but competitively for the past 4.

No More CAHSEE for Class of 2016, 2017 & 2018

On Wednesday, October 7, 2015 Governor Brown signed SB 172 in to law which suspends the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) and removes it as a requirement for high school graduation for students graduating in 2016, 2017, and 2018. It also enables any student who has met all the requirements for graduation except CAHSEE dating back to the class of 2004 to receive a high school diploma.

Kennedy Film Magnet Produces LAUSD Choices 2016 Video

This year the Office of Student Integration asked seniors from Kennedy’s filmmaking magnet to produce "Choices 2016", an LAUSD television show produced to promotes the Magnet application process and highlights magnet programs throughout LAUSD. August 2015 Senior Athletes of the Month

Martin Ibarra has played 3 years on Varsity Football, Basketball, and Shotput team. Najee Morrison is the Captain of the Football team and will continue Track for his fourth consecutive season. Vincent Garcia has been on the Football and Track team for 3 years and is one of Cheer’s male lifters. Ami Amaral has played 2 years on the Varsity Volleyball team. Evvie Alonzo has played 3 years on the Volleyball team and will continue her second season on the Varsity Swim team.
