Kennedy Identified as one of America's Best High Schools in 2016

John F. Kennedy High School in Granada Hills, CA is ranked 416th within the state of California by US News & World Report. Students have the opportunity to take Advanced Placement® course work and exams. The AP® participation rate at Kennedy High School is 40 percent. Kennedy is ranked #2175 in the Nation and earned a silver medal. Schools are ranked based on their performance on state-required tests and how well they prepare students for college.

Daily News: Kennedy Football Revels in Rivalry Victory Over Granada Hills

"The win gave Kennedy the Granada Hills Chamber Of Commerce trophy for the first time since 2009 in a rivalry that began when Kennedy first opened its doors in 1971. After the game, the Kennedy student section stormed the field to celebrate the end of the school’s five year drought to the Highlanders."

Kennedy Wins Silver at National SkillsUSA in Kentucky

Graduating Kennedy seniors Jerry Cerda and Samantha Crende (pictured in the lower left) travelled to Louisville, Kentucky this last June to compete in the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference. They represented California in the Television Production contest competing against 32 teams from across the US. Jerry and Sam brought home a Silver Medal for California and Kennedy HS. This is the first time a team from California has won a medal in this contest.

Kennedy High Teacher Awarded ASCD Grant

ASCD, the Virginia-based nonprofit formerly known as the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, has named Dr. Scott Petri, a history teacher at John F. Kennedy High School, as one of 17 teachers nationwide to receive the first-ever ASCD Teacher Impact Grants.

Architecture, Digital Design, and Filmmaking Magnet Honored by Magnet Schools of America

Kennedy's Architecture/Digital Design/Filmmaking Magnet has been honored by the Magnet Schools of America as a leading school in the nation for achievement and creative excellence. This award, "Magnet School of Distinction", was awarded to only 8 magnet schools in California that have demonstrate high academic excellence, specialized curriculum and instruction, and family engagement. Magnet Schools of America is a national organization that represents over 4,000 magnet schools across the country.

Kennedy Film Magnet Garners National Award, Networking Opportunities for Students

District officials are accepting a Magnet School of Distinction Award for the program at the Magnet Schools of America convention in Miami, while students from John F. Kennedy High are representing their school at the California Educational Summit: Education and Technology. The magnet is the only high school in California invited to film behind-the-scenes footage and participate in job-shadowing opportunities with entertainment titans.

Teaching Academy Students Teach at Danube Elementary

On April 7, Teaching Academy Students started teaching at Danube Elementary. Kennedy has partnered up with Junior Achievement to develop lesson plans that are engaging for students in grades K-5. These Kennedy Cougars will be teaching at Danube Elementary School for the next 5 weeks.

New Gifted Medical Magnet in 2016-2017 (Grades 9-12)

Kennedy was chosen to open a new highly gifted, gifted, and high ability magnet for the 2016-17 school year serving 450 students. Normally the process for opening a magnet takes several years, but because of the great need in our community for such a program, this process has been expedited. We intended to further develop the Biomedical Health and Fitness Academy to include Sports Medicine. This magnet will be open to all qualified students in grades 9-12. Kennedy Wins Gold at the SkillsUSA State Competition

Congratulations to our SkillsUSA team who competed in the California state conference in San Diego, California. Samantha Crende and Jerry Cerda won the Gold Medal in Television Production and are now going to represent California at the National SkillsUSA conference in Louisville, Kentucky this June. This is the 3rd gold medal in a row for our magnet filmmaking program.
